Originally founded in 1906 as the Jewish Orthodox Old Home on Orange Avenue, the organization grew over the years, relocating twice before establishing its current home on Cedar Road in 1968.
As the needs of older adults and their families evolved, the campus continued to grow, expanding into a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) with a range of residential, healthcare, and supportive services designed to meet changing needs at every stage of aging. From independent and assisted living to skilled nursing, rehabilitation, memory care, hospice, and other specialized services, our campus offers a continuum of care within one connected community.
Today, we are proud to carry forward a longstanding tradition of excellence, innovation, and commitment to Jewish values.
In December 2023, King David also proudly continued the operation of the longest standing adult day care center in existence, providing daytime care, social engagement, and complimentary transportation while helping older adults remain active, connected, and supported in the community.
King David proudly honors its Jewish heritage through tradition, spiritual life, kosher dining, holiday celebrations, and meaningful cultural programming, while welcoming individuals of all backgrounds.

A group of concerned Jews establish the Hebrew Orthodox Old Age Home, Bet Moshav Zekenim, in a frame house on Cleveland’s east side. For five years, the Home sheltered elderly Jews who had arrived in the “new country” from shtetls and ghettos of eastern Europe without resources or family with whom to live. The Home was supported by membership dues of 10 cents a month, solicited house-to-house, street-by-street, in the old Woodland-East 556th Street neighborhood.

The Home moved to a new 46-bed building on Scovill Avenue in the heart of the Jewish community, where it served the immigrant elderly until 1921, when a new building for 80 residents was constructed on Lakeview Road. The new facility included an 800-seat synagogue to serve the entire neighborhood. By 1948, 135 additional beds were added.

Following a year of extensive study and major new construction, the Home developed a long-range plan that set the stage for the move in 1968 to the present site in Beachwood.

Reflecting evolving approaches to senior living, the center expanded its campus with the addition of Independent Living Apartments—the first residential option designed for individuals who wanted to maintain their independence while enjoying the connection, convenience, and support of the campus.

A major facility and program expansion is undertaken in response to the dramatically increasing number of elderly and their changing needs. This expansion increases the capacity of the campus by 20%, with the addition of new non-institutional services as well. At the same time, a Research Institute is established.

A Community and Professional Services Building and an Adult Day Care Center were built. The broader adult day program itself traces its roots back over 50 years, making it the longest-established senior daytime care program of its kind in the nation.

The Aquatic & Therapy Center begins serving therapy and rehabilitation needs in the community. It remains one of the only Centers that offers aquatic therapy in addition to land-based therapies.

The Assisted Living Community, now known as Deer Creek Lodge Assisted Living, opens!

A memory care center opens within what is now known as The Villas Assisted Living, offering award-winning services for residents with memory loss.

Center 4 Brain Health begins, and is already making a difference at the local, national and international levels by helping community members and professionals with proactive approaches for enhancing memory and solutions for persons with memory challenges.

King David Senior Living Community Opens in December of 2023, continuing the proud legacy that has already existed for over 100 years.
